Sannyam Chaurasia, an analyst at Canalys, said “vendors have rushed deliveries of devices to meet festive demand, but weaker-than-expected traction will push inventories”
For the first time, Vivo claimed the top spot in India’s smartphone market, capturing 19% market share with 9.1 million units shipped between July and September, thanks to a strong push across various sales channels. Xiaomi followed in second place, shipping 7.8 million units, fueled by the popularity of its budget 5G phones, while Samsung took third with 7.5 million units, according to Canalys.
Oppo (excluding OnePlus) and Realme made the top five, with 6.3 million and 5.3 million units shipped, respectively. Meanwhile, there was also a solid quarter of brands outside the top five. Ahead of Apple’s new release, there has been a huge demand for iPhone 15, especially from smaller cities. Other brands such as Motorola, Google and Nothing also grew, driven by their unique designs, clean user interfaces and expanding sales channels, the report said.
